Advantica Awarded NCQA Certification for Utilization Management
Clearwater, FL (May 23, 2013) - Advantica, a leading ancillary benefits company, today announced the successful renewal of its National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) Certification in Utilization Management for eye care services.
As an eye care benefits administrator, Advantica employes utilization management strategies to deliver high-quality service to its health plan clients. The company's proprietary set of clinical and billing guidelines are applied at every stage of the claims life cycle through prior authorization, auto-adjudication of claims and manual reviews. These practices detect over billing and/or unnecessary procedures and allow Advantica to intervene in cases when services are found to be inappropriate or excessive.

NCQA's Utilization Management Certification Program assesses key aspects of utilization management operations that focus on consumer protection and improvement in service to customers. NCQA's certification review includes a rigorous on- and off-site evaluation conducted by a team of physicians and managed care experts. The NCQA Review Oversight Committee of physicians analyzes the team's findings and assigns a certification status based on an organization's performance against standards, within applicable certification options.

Advantica's Chief Operating Officer, Margaret Nekic, selected as Most Influential Women in Optical 2012 - Executive Suite.
From her start as an entry-level claims manager to her position as COO, Nekic has worked in health care for both mid-sized and Fortune 500 insurance corporations for over 15 years. In addition to her executive duties at Advantica, the vision care and dental benefit management company, she also is actively involved in the National Association of Vision Care Plans and the National Association of Specialty Health Organizations.
At the age of 13, without vision insurance, she put on eyeglasses for the first time and realized how clear everything could look. “I immediately understood all the things that I had been missing and wanted to share that realization with others,” she said. “I am now part of an organization that delivers that vital service to millions of individuals nationwide. Vision insurance takes a proactive approach by encouraging patients to get comprehensive vision care regularly.” Still, she never imagined her undergraduate degree in political science and MBA would lead to this area of the insurance industry.
“The managed vision care industry has traditionally been dominated by women in all facets of the business except for the executive suite,” she continued. “That is changing. We are seeing more women emerge as proven, valued and equal leaders.”
While she feels that women bring vital insights and strength to leadership, she believes it really boils down to the person regardless of their sex and that breaking stereotypes is the key to success as it brings about true equality in the workplace.

Advantica Partners with the Tampa Bay Rays to Support "Reading with the Rays" Program
Advantica, a dental and vision benefit provider based in Clearwater, Florida is pleased to announce its support of Reading with the Rays, a summer reading program designed to encourage and reward children for reading during the summer break.
As the Official Vision Benefits Partner of the Tampa Bay Rays, Advantica understands that reading is vital to a child's development in life. Good eyesight plays a critical role in the ability to read and children who struggle reading may have undiagnosed vision problems. Comprehensive eye examinations are an important step in helping children succeed in school, in sports, and in life.

Advantica and CharityWorks Partner to Provide Economically Disadvantaged Students with Oral Health Education and Dental Supplies
Advantica, an integrated vision and dental benefits provider based in Clearwater, Florida and CharityWorks, Inc., a nonprofit intermediary, announced today their partnership in providing all elementary students in Pinellas County Title 1 Schools with dental supplies to support the students' oral health and wellness needs.
Advantica is supporting CharityWorks' Give Hope USA wellness-medical aid program by providing toothbrushes and printed educational materials for dental kits. With other individual contributors, over 19,000 students will receive supplies for the kits, including a six (6) ounce tube of toothpaste. Each school is offered the opportunity to turn the process of the dental kit assembly into learning experience and at the end of the day each student can take their dental kit home.
"The Give Hope USA program was launched in 2010 and continues to thrive today through the support of our local businesses, like Advantica, many individual donors and local volunteers," shared Chris P. Renfrow, President and CEO of ChariyWorks, Inc.
Earlier in the year, Advantica also supported the program by participating on a judging panel in which the students presented their own, uniquely created Public Service Announcements to promote good dental hygiene. Advantica supplied the winning school with a year's supply of toothbrushes and educational materials. CharityWorks delivered the grand prize to Melrose Elementary in the first of four planned distributions in 2012.

Richard L. Sanchez named President of the National Association of Vision Care Plans
The National Association of Vision Care Plans (NAVCP) elected Richard L. Sanchez, President and CEO of Advantica, to President. Mr. Sanchez succeeded Liz DiGiandomedico of EyeMed Vision Care, who had held the office for the past two years. Mr. Sanchez outlined five key objectives for the organization in the coming year: developing the NAVCP’s strategy toward the roll-out of health care reform, and partnering with other groups aligned with its strategy; reviewing the organization’s structure to make sure it best represents its members’ interests; continuing to communicate the value of vision care and the role of vision plans in health care; expanding the awareness and role of the NAVCP with benefiting entities; and continuing to increase membership and add value to the members.
The NAVCP currently has 17 primary members and 16 allied members. New members since last year’s conference are Eyeinfinity/OfficeMate, NGL Insurance, Focal Center, Pro Fit Optix, Eyemart Express and eyeQuest; For Eyes, Block Vision and VisionWeb also have returned as NAVCP members.
